Title I is a federal grant that is designed to “provide all children significant opportunities to receive a fair, equitable, and high quality education, and to close educational achievement gaps.” Title I schools receive government funds to met the needs of their students and families. Schools are identified for Title I funds based on the percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price meals. Herndon Elementary relies solely on volunteers and sponsors to be able to offer activities, events, and after school programs that are comparable to non-Title I schools in the area.
